A1 Challenge 73-64 UCU Lady Canons (Series tied 1-1)

A1 Challenge were swept in last year’s playoffs semifinals by eventual champions KCCA Leopards.

This season though, Moreen Amoding was not going to let that happen as she posted playoffs high 35 points and swiped 6 steals to help A1 Challenge beat UCU Lady Canons 74-63 on Friday night at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

After coming from down to beat to beat Nkumba, A1’s skipper Vickie Ntale said they can match UCU.

“I think we can match UCU in every sense if the girls give a little more. If we can take out Purity (Odhiambo) and Vilma (Achieng) we can beat them”

A1 went by what their captain said and the reward was a game two victory to knot up the five-game series with the Lady Canons.

The first quarter ended 14 all, before A1 edged the second 17-12. The Lady Canons responded with a 23-15 third quarter to go into the last leading 49-46.

A1 Challenge turned it up in the last quarter fighting on every possession, defended gallantly and went up two minutes into the quarter and did not trail again.

Liz Kiiza contributed 9 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for A1, Vickie Ntale had 8 points and 10 rebounds while Vickie Ondiso contributed 9 points and 8 rebounds.

Purity Odhiambo scored team high 14 points and picked game high 14 rebounds, Vilma Aching had 13 points and 13 rebounds. Ritah Imanishimwe contributed 9 points while star guard Judith Nansobya struggled on the night with a mere 8 points.
