Sport-S sent a strong statement that they won’t be pushovers when the National Volleyball League playoffs commence on Wednesday at Lugogo.

The five time league winners defeated holder KAVC 3-0 at Lugogo on Monday night to maintain their number one seed status going into the playoffs.

Sport-S rallied to a 25-19, 25-22 lead as they took command of the game until the third set when KAVC launched a come back.

Leading 18-14, KAVC’s main attacker Daudi Okello twisted his ankle, efforts to have him continue with the game were futile.

Sport-S launched the chase to recover the set as Jensen Chestit replaced Daudi. From a four point game, Sport-S narrowed the gap to one (18-19) and eventually caught up 20 all.

Skipper Dickens Otim blocked KAVC’s Gabriel Yikita for the lead 21-20, but the Lugogo side again levelled matters 22 all. Allan Tumukunde tore Joel Endra’s block to make it 23-22, he later served KAVC’s Libero Emma Elanyu who butted, 24-22.

KAVC’s Endra and Ishak Mugambi ensured the game went to deuce, Sport-S responded by switching setters, Warren Muhangi came on for Albert Gayi.

KAVC’s took the lead, 25-24 before Ivan Ongom drew the game level and eventually seal it off with a dump, 27-25.

The win took Sport-S to 60 points, fi e better than KAVC, Nemostars are third on 50 with Nkumba lying fourth on 45.

Sport-S will play Nkumba Navy in the best of three semis while Nemostars take on KAVC on Wednesday.
