Ethiopia 1-1 Tanzania
It was a dramatic, tense and thrilling evening at the fully packed Awassa International Stadium as 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup hosts, Ethiopia took on Tanzania in the final Group A fixture.
The exciting game played on a high tempo ended one-all, ensuring progress for the hosts as one of the two countries to qualify to the quarters as the third placed teams.
Prior to the match, Ethiopia needed least a point from the game to progress to the next stage but found themselves with a mountain task when they fell to Simon Msuva’s header from Hussein’s decent cross minutes into the second half.
With true determination and the zeal of a host country, cheered by a lively crowd, Nasser Mohammed tempted Salim Mbonde to divert the ball into his own net deep in added time after normal time had clocked.
The Walia Stars thus qualified for the quarter finals as ‘best losers’ in their group at the expense of Group B team, Burundi, who had lost 1-0 to the 13 time record league winners, Uganda.
