Uganda Cranes will play guest team, Malawi Flames in the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup quarter finals on Monday, December 30, 2015.
This follows the successful completion of all the group games on Saturday.
Uganda Cranes, the most successful side (with 13 titles) in this tournament also the oldest on the African continent overcame a slow start winning 4-0 and 1-0 over Zanzibar and Burundi respectively to top Group B and qualify to the last eight stage.
After falling 2-0 in the opening game to defending champions Kenya, Uganda perfectly recovered to win 4-0 against Zanzibar with team skipper Faruku Miya bagging a brace before Erisa Ssekisambu and Ceaser Okhuti scoring the other goals.
On Saturday, substitute Frank Kalanda netted a 69th minute goal that drowned Burundi, who were ejected from the tournament after Ethiopia’s draw against Tanzania meant that the host nation qualified as the best losers.
The Uganda versus Malawi fixture game will be a repeat of the recent international build up held on 6th July 2015 for the two sister nations.
Malawi won 1-0 on the day at the Kamuzu Banda stadium in Blantyre, a match that was organized to celebrate their Independence Day.
Back then, striker Chiukepo Msowoya scored a late header to give the Flames victory over the Cranes before over 60,000 home fans.
On Monday, Uganda will seek quick answers as pay back time in a bid to register the 14th CECAFA crown.
Other Quarter-finals:
Tanzania play Sudan in the other Monday fixture before the Tuesday double header involving Rwanda and defending champions Kenya and the host nation, Ethiopia takes on the tournament surprise package, South Sudan.
This is the 38th edition of the tournament that brings together countries in the East and Central Africa.
