- 1st Runners Up: Uganda Cranes (390 Votes)
- 2nd Runners Up: Farouk Miya (370 Votes)
Body builder, Ivan Byekwaso has been voted the Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) best sports personality of the month of November 2015.
This was during the Sports Journalists’ monthly convention held at Daisy Hall, Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on Monday, 7th December 2015.
Byekwaso’s feat follows heroics at the 2015 INBA/PNBA World Cup, in San Diego, California on 8th November 2015 where the well muscled Ugandan scooped the top prize.
The 37 year old body builder also won the 67th edition of the global event held at the Zach Topfer Theater in South Lamar, Austin Texas State, United States of America, where he beat close to 120 competitors in the 178cm men natural body building and fitness event.
This is the second award for Byekwaso by the sports journalists in a space of two months, having also won the September award where he beat badminton ace, Edwin Ekiringi.
Byekwaso who scooped 410 votes was nominated by Innerman FM’s Solomon Ssaka and seconded by FUFA FM’s sports reporter, Regan Kyanda.
Uganda Cranes team that beat Togo home and away in the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifier to make it to the group stages of the qualification process finished second with 390 votes.
The Cranes were nominated by The Observer’s John Vianny Nsiimbe and seconded by Kawowo Sports’ David Isabirye.
Inspirational player, Faruku Miya was third in the highly contested exercise with 370 votes.
Miya was nominated by FUFA’s sports presenter, Hamza ‘Africana’ Nsereko Kawuma.
The sports journalists commended a number of personalities.
Lady kick boxer, Patricia Apolot was recognized for winning a world contest.
Others were; Tennis player Duncan Mugabe for winning the 2015 Uganda Open, Arthur Blick Junior for winning the Enduro Championship, MUBS for winning a back to back University Football Leagues, Uganda Golf Team (defending East African Golf Challenge) and the Pool Cranes for finishing second at the Africa Pool Championships.
Other top performers in the month of November included Ronnie Bukenya, the Uganda Golf Captain (won the Entebbe open and was part of the Ugandan team at the East African Golf Challenge), Angelle Busingye (Pool Queen winner for the year 2015) and Motocross guru, Maxim Van Pee.
The date of Byekwaso’s crowning will be communicated in the due course.
