Friday Fixtures
Women: Ndejje Elites vs. VVC
Men: Nemostars vs. Sport-S
(VVC and Sport-S lead the series 1-0)

At the 2014 National Volleyball League finals, between Sport-S and KAVC, both teams were tied on four titles, whoever would win over five games, would independently hold a record five league titles.

KAVC drew first blood by winning the first game, Sport-S responded in style, leveling the series and eventually winning game three to lead 2-1.

KAVC recovered to win the next two games as they sealed the championship, but the decisive set of game five was probably the most grueling for both fans and players.

With KAVC leading 14-11, Sport-S brought on setter Warren Muhangi who served until 14-15, but failed to seal the game as the Lugogo side eventually won the set 22-20.

Sport-S’ main attacker Ivan Ongom recalls the moments from the 2014 final;

The events of last year’s final are still fresh, not only in the last game, but throughout the series and we have a chance to make to make things right, we have to utilize the chance

Ongom and company have more than a chance to rectify their mistakes from last year, for starters they are playing a different opponent in the final but a familiar rival in Nemostars.

Secondly, the series have been reduced from five to three, meaning they are one game away from achieving their desired dream.

Yes we are close, but this is the time we need to focus the most. We are a game up and everyone thinks we are going to walk onto court and take game two with ease, that won’t be the case because Nemostars are equally good and would want to get back into the series.

Sport-S are talking of focus, Nemostars’ setter Smith Okumu is preaching the same gospel as they aim to land their third league title in four years.

We put ourselves in this situation by failing to win game one, and now we have to get ourselves back on the road by winning the next game. Sport-S come into this as favorites but we are not being intimidated by that, we will just go out to play our game.

In the event that Nemostars win the game on Friday, game three will be played on Sunday at MUBS, Nakawa.
