Uganda Premier League: Match Day 13 Result

  • Sadolin Paints F.C 0-0 Vipers S.C

The reigning Uganda premier league champions, Vipers Sports club played to a non -scoring draw with Jinja side, Sadolin Paints football club on Tuesday at the Bugembe stadium.

In a well attended fixture, the home team welcoming back star player Allan Oryek after a long time on the side lines employed a more tactical approach to the game, barely three days after breaking Express’ unbeaten run in 10 games.

Perhaps, for the champions, it was the second consecutive game running that they missed the services of inspirational play maker, Faruku Miya.

In the opening 45 minutes, either sides were shy in the final third of the playing field with virtually no clear cut goal bound opportunities to report home about.

However, when the second half returned, the visitors showed more urge to return home with the three points in the basket.

Sadolin Paints goal keeper, Matiya Muwanga saved off Aleku’s shot before Allan Kyambadde hesitated to bury the ball home in a goal melee in the 56th minute.

By the hour mark, Vipers had forced 5 corners, just in the second half – thanks to William Wadri, Erisa Ssekisambu and the towering young forward Alfred Aleku’s industrious play.

Realizing time was quickly running out for them, the Vipers’ technical bench replaced a seemingly tired Kyambadde for a more direct and offensive tennager, Pius ‘Muzeei’ Wanji.

The home team retaliated with their own change 10 minutes later introducing the fresh legs of Joshua Masene for Andrew Basoma.

Disallowed goal:

On 72 minutes, referee Joseph Ochom ruled out Vipers’ goal from Aleku after the first assistant referee, Musa Balikowa had called for an off-side – apparently against another player, Wanji who had expressed interest in the ball.

Four minutes later, William Wadri paved way for Saddam Ibrahim Juma before Bassan replaced Nigerian born striker Victor Emenayo for yet another Sadolin Paints change.

Ten minutes to full time, dribbling gem, Hood Mayanja replaced Allan Oryek as Vipers sough to add the numbers upfront introducing left footed winger Duncan Seninnde for Deus Bukenya.

With five minutes left on the clock, Wanji had the chance of the day to break the hearts of the passionate Bugembe faithfuls, but he looked on in disappointment when his attempt from an acute angle beat goalie Muwanga (who was at the near post) but missed the target.

The home side jealously possessed the ball for the remaining time with one prayer at heart – not to concede in the remaining deciding minutes.

By the final blow of referee Ochom’s whistle, the smiles beaming across the faces of Sadolin Paints players and fans like vis-a-vis the worry lines pasted on the opposition were a complete contrast.

Despite the draw, Vipers closed the gap to three points onto the table leaders, KCCA F.C who lost to BUL F.C just across Bugembe town at Kakindu stadium.
