2015/16 Uganda Premier League: Match Day 13
- Soana F..C 0-0 The Saints F.C
Uganda Premier League debutants, The Saints football club earned a precious away point at Soana in the goal-less fixture played at Kavumba recreational stadium in Wakiso on Tuesday.
This was second non scoring draw result registered on match day 13 where a total of five games were played.
In a fixture televised live to millions of fans across the divide, either teams played cautiously well away of the big prize at stake – winning the precious three points.
Former KCCA striker, Francis Olaki had a half chance to put the hosts ahead in the 26th minute but missed target from close range.
In the same vein, Ivan Kiweewa, a former player at Sports Club Villa found himself in the same situation 8 minutes to the half time recess, to no avail.
The visitors had the final attempt of the opening half at goal witnessing lead forward Alex Kitata heading straight at goalie Muhammed Didi off Viane Ssekajugo’s telling delivery.
The second stanza opened on a low key for the hosts when Geofrey Ssimbwa was booked for unsporting conduct following a foul on Ssekajugo, a minute after restart.
Ten minutes later, the visitors called for the opening change of the day when burly forward Nicholas Odongo replaced Ivan Kiweewa.
Meanwhile, Soana’s Charles Ayiekho planned for his first change of the game – introducing silky midfielder, Steven Bengo for Willy Kavuma on 68 minutes.
Olaki had a 70th minute attempt saved by goal keeper Mutumba following a decent delivery from former Saints F.C player, Kamada Ssebagala.
With a quarter of an hour left on the clock, Abdullah Nyanzi was cautioned for a malicious tackle on the dribbling pint sized Ssekajugo.
Within the final five minutes, Kitata had a shot on target before he paved way for Godfrey Mugisha, meanwhile Nelson Ssempagala came in for Matovu in the final call for coach George ‘Best’ Nsiimbe.
Former Police F.C experienced defender Siraje Ssevume combined well with one of Soana’s longest serving player, Timothy Musinguzi to thwart any sort of danger with well timed clearances and command of the team as the time rolled by for their 4th draw of the campaign.
Table Standings:
For the draw earned, Soana F.C remains 4th on the table with 20 points from 13 games as The Saints stayed 15th on the 16 team log with 7 points.
This was the Saints’ fourth draw of the season, the second at Kavumba stadium this season following a one all draw with Police F.C on 8th September 2015.
The Saints host their next home game against the now troubled Express at Nelson Mandela national stadium, Namboole three days to Christmas day.
