Uganda Golf Union (UGU) has a new executive committee for the a year long tenure.

Uganda Golf Club member, Johnson Omollo is the new president, replacing Kiroywa Kiwanuka.

Omollo beat Entebbe Golf Club’s Innocent Kihiika by one vote during the elective Annual General Meeting at the Uganda Golf Club.

How Omollo Won:

Omollo won on a technicality after the two polled 10 votes each before one vote bearing ‘Oscar Kihiika’ instead of ‘Innocent Kihiika’ who was the candidate standing for the post, was declared invalid.

Wealth of Experience:

Omollo brings onto board a wealth of experience having served as vice president to outgoing president Kiryowa Kiwanuka and also served as general secretary to the Amos Nzeyi executive.

Omollo, also the vice president of the African Golf Confederation, will be deputized by former committee member Herbert Rwamibazi who sailed through unopposed.

Omollo told the New Vision;

This is a journey that started seven years ago and I would like to thank the golfing fraternity for electing me. I will continue working closely with the outgoing executive and we shall build on what they achieved to take the sport forward.

Former Jinja Golf Club captain Bernard Mbayo beat Paul Katuramu 11-10 to take over as the new secretary of the union while Paul Baite is the new treasurer after a 12-9 win over Sam Thakker.

Oscar Semawere and John Bosco Tumusiime are committee members.

The electorate consisted of 20 members, 15 of them captains of the Golf Clubs in Uganda, and the outgoing executive.

Omollo’s executive has a huge task of trying to match the zeal and achievements of the outgoing team that included winning the Zone VI and the East African Challenge trophies and also bringing on board several sponsors that have turned around the sport in the past two years.
