Controversy surrounded Sport-S’ loss in game two of the best of three series as Nemostars leveled the series before going on to defeat the Nsambya side in the decisive game.

There is that one call by the referee that most Sport-S players think was the end of the road for them; the carry called against setter Warren Muhangi is what put Benon Mugisha’s charges down.

“We were not ready to play after that harsh referee call on Friday night, psychologically guys were down,” receiver attacker Ivan Ongom revealed to Kawowo sports.

He however knows that as a team they should have gone on to win the series regardless of that one call, “Of course we should have done better in game three,” he admitted before lashing out at the level of officiating in the country.

“At that point you call for a common point because it won’t favor any side, referees are boring Ugandan volleyball,” the left handed assassin revealed.

Sport-S lost 2-1 to Nemostars to surrender the title after taking a 1-0 lead in the series, the Nsambya side lost the 2014 title to KAVC in the same manner and Ongom believes they should be knocking their opponents out if they are to lift the title.

“At the end of the day I don’t blame the referees because they are human, to win the championship we need to give our opponents a knock out but we failed to do that, that’s why we lost.”

The attention has now turned to trying to win the title next season and Ongom is positive they will land the final punch.
