Savio Kabugo says URA FC’s goal this season is to emerge champions and not anything else.
The tax collectors are currently in Zanzibar where they traveled to take part in the 2016 Mapinduzi cup.
Although he didn’t travel with the team, defender Kabugo believes the competition will help improve the team’s level of “confidence and fitness”.
“I believe this tournament will help us boost on both our confidence and fitness levels, especially Derrick Tekkwo, Shafik Kagimu and Julius Ntambi who have been out injured.”
The newly acquired member of the squad who joined last year in further believes they have one of the best and balanced teams in the league.
“We have some of the best players in the league like Said Kyeyune , Richard Kassaga, Oscar Agaba, Jimmy Kulaba, Sam Senkoomi, Robert Sentongo who have shown time and again that they are ready to lead the team to glory.
“The squad is more balanced and for us, that is what makes the difference.”
Asked how he feels getting back to action after such a long time, Kabugo who’s early header separated Uganda from Ghana in the group stages of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nation’s qualifiers added that he is “excited” to finally get back on pitch.
“Its obviously been a long time since I stepped foot on pitch but I’m excited and can’t wait for the league to resume.”
I’ve been training so hard, trying to maintain my footballing shape and get back my fitness level. I feel really good and ready to help my team achieve our set target. We want to try win the league.”
The four time league champions who last won the league in 2010/2011 season boast of the current league top scorer Robert Sentongo but haven’t been convincing at the back.
Despite their rather shaky defence, Kabugo believes the team is blessed with good defenders and hopes his arrival will help strength the defence more.
“Richard Kassaga, Sam Senkoomi, and Jimmy Kulaba are some of the best defenders we have in the league although we’ve struggled a bit at the back. I hope my addition will help solve this but first, I must work hard to earn a place in the team.”
