Nigeria came into their second game in Group C of the African Championship Nations (CHAN) against Tunisia looking at nothing but a win that would guarantee them qualification to the last eight.
Tunisia wanted to win their first game at the Championship and brighten those same chances but unfortunately for both sides, the match ended 1-1.
Nigeria’s coach, Sunday Oliseh spoke after the game and according to him, the Super Eagles lost to vital points.
“It’s two points lost for us, whichever way you want to look at it,” Oliseh said in the post-match press conference. “We dominated the game throughout, although our opponents troubled us with the high balls,” he added.
Despite dominating possession, Nigeria didn’t create so many goal scoring chances that would win them the match. Tunisia on the hand had the lion’s share in that department although they also failed to make it count.
It wasn’t until the 52nd minute when Elvis Chisom Chikatara found a breakthrough for the Super Eagles. Ahmed Akaichi leveled matters for Tunisia in the 69th minute and had more chances to seal the game but failed to capitalize.
Nigeria, on four points now will play Guinea in their last group game on January 26 needing only a point to advance while Tunisia will need to defeat Niger to stand any chance of making it to the last eight.
