Nick Mwendwa has been voted as the new Federation of Kenyan Football (FKF) president replacing Samuel Nyamweya.

The Kariobangi Sharks Chairman beat Ambrose Rachier after amassing 50 of the 77 votes with Rachier getting 27 whilst other contestants Gor Semelang’o and Ssemi Aina all polled zero votes.

There was a surprise withdraw from the poll held at Kasarani Annex by incumbent Nyamweya who declared he had served enough perhaps sensing danger.

Aged 36 years old, Mwendwa has in the previous months traversed the country in search votes under his ‘Team Change’ theme and to most football followers in the country, a lot is expected from the young man.

Rachier concedes defeat

Rachier who is also the chairperson of KPL showed sportsmanship spirit as he conceded defeat and promised to work together with the new president.

“What is I saw today was very impressive, a very transparent way of conducting elections and I must commend the IED for a job well done,” Rachier told Soka,

“I’m in football for the love of it. I will continue serving in my capacity as the KPL and Gor Mahia Chairman,”

“As far as the KPL is concerned, we consider ourselves to be working in partnership with the FKF and that still stands. We will cooperate with the federation and hope that they, too, respect the Memorandums of Understanding in place and the regulations that have been set.”
