CAF Confederations Cup Preliminary Round 1st Leg

Sunday February 12, 2016 Khartoum (Sudan) Vs SC Villa (Uganda)

Following his side’s 2-0 victory over JMC Hippos in a buildup game, SC Villa Coach Ibrahim Kirya is hopeful of getting past Sudan’s Khartoum Nationale in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Goals from Umar Kasumba and Patrick Mbowa saw the Blues not only win but keep a clean sheet which Kirya labels as important in two legged knock out fixtures.

“First, be it a friendly or competitive match, a win brings confidence,” he told Kawowo Sports. “The performance was impressive as we moved the ball well and created goal scoring opportunities. In addition, we kept a clean sheet,” he added.

SC Villa’s biggest problem this campaign is the failure by forwards’ to find the back of the net but Kirya believes the goal will take pressure from Kasumba.

“When a centre forward isn’t scoring, it’s not good for his confidence. Hopefully, the goal will take pressure off Kasumba. He is a good team player but as a striker, goals are important.”

SC Villa plays away on Sunday February 14 and will host the return leg in a fortnight.
