Express completed a season double over relegation threatened UPDF as the two teams faced off on Wednesday in Bombo.

The Red Eagles secured a 1-0 win courtesy of Elvis Ssekajugo’s late goal. It should be noted that the reverse fixture at Ham Stadium, Nakivubo also ended with the same scoreline.

Despite going into the game with several off field challenges, Express managed to put up efforts and claim victory.

Coach Jimmy Kintu came out after their 3-1 win over Police and indicated the players have gone several months without pay.

“People have contracts and have to be paid. This is not a charity organisation,” Kintu stated. “It is not right, especially for a team like Express FC to be struggling in such a way that players and staff take this long without getting paid.”

Even before going to Bombo for today’s game, there were reports of struggles to get transport.

UPDF got the first chance of the game in the fifth minute but failed to punish Express when goalkeeper Hafizi Khassim fumbled with the ball in an attempt to play from behind. Thereafter, there were few chances for either side.

The decisive moment came a minute to the end of normal time with substitute Ssekajugo slotting home.

The winger who replaced Mikidad Ssenyonga in the 63rd minute, fired home from close range, when defender Bernard Muwanga failed to clear the ball away.

The result means Express remain 10th on the pile with 29 points while UPDF stay 13th with 17 points, only two ahead of the relegation zone.
