Uganda 0-3 Egypt (12-25, 18-25, 19-25)
The Uganda Lady Volleyball Cranes received a rude welcome to the Olympic Qualifiers Tournament after falling 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-19) to Egypt Friday afternoon.
The North Africans meant business from the first serve as they took the first set 25-12 before following it up with 25-18 in the second.
Tony Lakony’s charges emerged in the third set and often led before falling away in the later in the set to hand Egypt the start they were looking for.
Uganda play Algeria on Saturday before facing Botswana on Sunday in their last group game.
For Lakony, Uganda’s middle attack and block didn’t go as planned and he will be expecting much better displays in the remaining games.
“The Egyptians were quite superior over us, we didn’t master some of the things I expected us to do, I was disappointed with our middle attack and block,”Lakony told the press after the game.
The Nkumba Navy tactician also blamed the loss on the inexperience of his squad. The other group game saw Algeria defeat Botswana 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-10)
