Gor Mahia 0-1 AFC Leopards

AFC Leopards edged rivals Gor Mahia 1-0 in the Mashemeji derby to end the champions’ 35 match unbeaten streak from last season as their last loss had come in 2014 against Sofapaka.

The K’Ogalo who won the title unbeaten last season conceded the winner in the 81st minute as substitute Lamine Diallo tapped home from close range to send the travelling fans at the Moi International stadium, Kasarani into frenzy.

Frank Nutall’s side were the better side inside the first half hour and should have scored twice through George Odhiambo and Innocent Wafula but were denied by Lucas Indeche in Ingwe’s goal.

The introduction of Ugandan Allan Kateregga for injured youngster Anthony Wekesa changed the tide for the Leopards who started to control proceedings and he nearly scored a stunner but Jerim Onyango was alert.

It was a 50-50 affair in the second half although Gor Mahia enjoyed more possession but without penetration.

Nuttall made changes introducing Enock Agwanda and Jacob Keli but it was Diallo who got on the score sheet at the opposite end.

The win takes AFC Leopards top of the Sportpesa Premier League log with 10 points after three wins from four games while Gor Mahia are stuck in the bottom half with three points and are winless in four league encounters.

Ugandans Godfrey Walusimbi and Aucho Khalid featured for Gor Mahia whilst Yakubu Ramadhan as well as Kateregga made their debut derby appearances.
