Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Denis Onyango was on top form as his side Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Highlands Park in the Nedbank Cup courtesy of a superb Keagan Dolly strike.
Onyango was so brilliant that he earned Man Of The Match accolade after the match, following a couple of saves that helped his team to advance to the Last 16 of the competition.
“I had to be on top of my game as we knew they’d sit back,” he told SuperSport after the game. “They played well and closed all the angles, and we couldn’t penetrate through so I had to stay alert as they were trying to catch us on the break, so thank God I managed to keep a clean sheet.
“Playing a team from the NFD is very dangerous, and you could lose concentration thinking they’re a small team, but credit goes to them – they gave us a hard game.”
Onyango expects Sundowns to return to the final in a bid to claim the trophy once again. “We need to get back to the Final as we’re the defending champions, and we know how important it is … we want to make history and win it for the second time in a row, so for us it’s very important,” he added.
