Uganda Cup Round of 16:
Maroons FC 1(7)-1(8) Bright Stars
Bright stars emerged victors of the Uganda Cup Round of 16 tie played at Luzira Prisons Grounds on Tuesday.
The game ended 1-1 in normal time with Patrick Kaddu grabbing his 3rd goal of the season to give the hosts the lead, only to witness Anthony Bongole pull the visitor’s level with just 2 minutes to full time.
The game started with Maroons pressing hard and should have found the opener as early as the 5th minute but Kaddu failed to get the best out of his free header.
Despite enjoying the lion’s share of possession, Maroons failed to utilise their clear cut chances and only found the back of the net in the 74 minute.
Substitute Bongole who replaced Kawadwa in the 68th minute took advantage of Maroons’ uncoordinated defence that couldn’t deal with Nsubuga’s free kick to score the goal.
The striker controlled the dropping ball inside the box and slotted it past a static Babu.
The game ended 1-1.
Davis Mutebi proved to be the hero for the Kawempe side as he saved two penalties before scoring the winning one to ensure that Fred Kajoba and his side book a place at the quarter finals.
Maroons had won the previous two rounds on penalties and perhaps the side thought the same would happen but fell short.
Captain, Sylvester Okello led the way and scored the first penalty giving his side an advantage.
On the other side, Baker Lukooya opened the account for his team with a good start.
It was them who eventually emerged victors after heroic displays from Mutebi.
The custodian saved Kiyaga and Mulikyi’s penalties before scoring the winner.
