Just seven days ago, Uganda Cranes coach Micho Sredojević descried Lweza’s striker Geoffrey Sserunkuma as ‘a treasure’ to Ugandan football, one that he thinks still has a lot to offer to the game especially in national colours.

Then, Micho was answering questions on why he summoned the 32 year old striker for the Cranes Regional tour in Arua where the national team lost 1-0 to West Nile.

He (Sserunkuma) has a unique sense of scoring, he is a treasure and value of this country. He is a returnee to the national team after being away since 2011, he has shown us on international level that we can count on him, and we want to continue monitoring him

The Serb told the FUFA Weekly press conference on March 9 before adding;

We have three filters that we shall use to check him out, in the regional tour this weekend, the U20 friendly (March 20) and the International friendly we are planning (March 22), if he passes those then he will be there among the best

Surprisingly, Micho’s tone has changed as he overlooked Sserunkuma when naming his 30 man squad on Wednesday at the FUFA weekly press conference head of the March 26 and 29 AFCON qualifiers against Burkina Faso.

He was supposed to pass three tests, he passed first test in CHAN and that’s why we have summoned him for the regional tour unfortunately with all due respect to him and whatever he has not passed that test and now I have to concentrate on players that are available and ready for the job

Sserunkuma has scored five goals already in the 2015/2016 Uganda Premier League season and an impressive 17 in 27 games in national colours.

In the 30 players Micho summoned, there were six strikers in skipper Geoffrey Massa, Hamis Kizza Diego, Emma Okwi, Caesar Okhuti, Erisa Sekisambu and Edrisa Lubega
