Ugandan born striker and Rwandan international Meddie Kagera walked out on Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia at the end of last season after both parties failed to agree on a new deal.
The former Masaka Local Council player failed to get a deal before the transfer window closed and has been stranded and looks like Gor Mahia are willingly to welcome him back with open arms.
Kagere asked to train with the club at the same resume negotiations ahead of the midseason transfer window in June according to Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier.
I have been in correspondence with him (Kagere) and he hast told me that he wants to come back. You are aware that he doesn’t have a club at the moment and he has asked that he trains with the team to maintain fitness. I have allowed him to do that.
Rachier was speaking to www.Kpl.co.ke on Thursday
He is currently in Rwanda but his family is here which I think is part of the reason he wants to come back here. Whether or not he will make a comeback will be dependent on the negotiations that we have with him in the coming months, as well as how the new coach will rank him. We shall open new negotiations and I hope that he will be more reasonable with his demands this time round
Kagere’s contract with Gor Mahia lapsed at the end of the2015 season and he asked for a new sign on fee of KSh4.5m (about Ush144m) to remain at the club, a deal he ignored saying he had better deals elsewhere.
Rachier, believes Kagere had been misled by some greedy agents to demand for an exaggerated sign on fee.
You see Kagere was not realistic with his demands. We wanted him to stay on, but we just couldn’t afford his demands at that time. I came to discover that he was only being misguided by some agent and he ended up losing out,”
The 2011 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup top scorer joined Gor at the beginning of the 2015 season, together with defenders Abouba Sibomana and Karim Nizigiyimana who also played for Rayon Sports.
The 29-year old became an instant hit at K’Ogalo, and wound up the season with 13 league goals after playing all 30 league matches, clocking 2,617 minutes of action.
The widely traveled Kagere has played for eight top clubs including Police FC, Rayon Sports, SC Kiyovu (Rwanda), Club Esperance (Tunisia) and FK Tirana (Albania).
