The 2016 edition of the UMEA muslim games rolled off on Good Friday at the vast Masaka S.S premises.

Gombe s.s netball team walloped Buziga Islamic S.S 56-08 in a one sided encounter.

Kawanda S.S was the better side in their 28-23 victory over hosts, Masaka S.S.

Kibuli defeated Ngando S.S 22-17 while Mukono s.s triumphed over Kawempe Muslim 31-11.

In the other games, Nabisunsa Girls, Luyazi, Sumaya Girls and Welden High Mbarara maintain a solid start in the volleyball sphere with opening victories over Mbogo Mixed, Gombe, Mbogo mixed (boys) and Kinaawa Mugongo respectively.

In football boys, Masaka S.S defeated 3-1 over Wagwa High School from Lukaya.

Isaac Ogwang, right back Geziga Atendele and Abdulnoor Lukwata scored for Masaka S.S.

Badru Kyazze gave Wagwa High their consolation strike.

On Saturday morning, Welden from Mbarara held Masaka S.S at the Kitovu Arena play ground to a one all draw..

Record Copa Coca Cola winners, Kibuli S.S fielded two teams – Juventus and Flamingo and they are all doing well.

Kibuli Juventus win 3-1 over Mbogo Mixed and Flamingo overcame Kawempe Muslim by a slim 1-0 result.

There is also action in volleyball and women’s football which is a new game among the list of sporting disciplines to be played.

The games were officially opened by Al Hajji Dr. Twaha Kawaase Kigongo, the second Deputy Katikiro of the Buganda Kingdom.

Kawaase hailed the organizers of the this tournament with a call to parents to encourage their sons and daughters take upon sports.

‘Sports is key for healthy living, socializing and improvement of welfare. I urge parents to encourage their children play football and other sporting disciplines’ Kawaase he called.

88 schools are taking part in this year’s championship.

Kibuli S.S is the tournament overall defending champion.

NIC, Pepsi and FUFA are the tournament chief funders.
