Express 1-0 SCVU

Tony Odur netted a second half winner as Express moved up to second on the table following a 1-0 victory over SCVU.

Odur converted a penalty in the 72nd minute after defender Yusuf Juuko committing a foul.

Express who have now won two in a row survived a late rally from the University side to hold onto their lead.

The Red Eagles had earlier threatened when Odur’s strike went wide following a Vincent Kayizzi’s inviting cross. Ibrahim Kayiwa then missed an open net after taking control of the lose ball inside the box.

In an attempt to salvage a draw, Haruna Mawa introduced Isaac Odeke in the 78th minute to pattern Ceaser Sampewo thus changing his formation from a 4-5-1 to a 4-4-2.

Odeke had an instant impact slotting his free kick just above the bar after Bronson Serumira was brought down.

SCVU had their custodian Edward Kasibante to thank for his great saves that kept the score sane.

Express now move second on the table with 35 points, level with Vipers who drew with SC Villa on Friday, and six below table leaders KCCA who beat Police 2-1.

SCVU are 14th on the table .
