Uganda Cup 2015/16:

  • Kitara Airtel vs Express F.C (Round of 32)
  • Thursday 7th April 2016 (4:00 pm)
  • At Boma grounds, Hoima.

In a fixture that will probably get down to the history books of Uganda’s football, Kitara-Airtel Football Club shall host giants, Express F.C in the continuation of the aborted Uganda Cup match that was stopped in the 86th minute when the two clubs faced off on Valentine’s day eve.

Only four minutes and added time will be played in the Round of 32 battle after the FUFA Competitions Committee ruled that the game should resume from where it stopped.

By the time the match was abandoned, the score was 0-0.

If no side finds the back of the net in the four minutes, penalties will determine the winner who will play host to Vipers F.C in the Round of 16 on a date to be communicated by FUFA.

Last year, Kitara – Airtel team shocked Express 1-0 courtesy of Congolese import, Bula Mupenge at the Round of 64 stage, a feat that club official, Joshua Atugonza believes will be achieved;

“We are more than ready to make history. Security wise, all is safe with a full battalion deployed combined of UPDF and Police” Atugonza assures Kawowo Sports.

Going by current form, the two sides are completely on a different wave length with Express losing their last game 2-0 away to BUL F.C in the league as Kitara Airtel is on a winning streak.

If Express does manage to travel, all the energies will be channeled on the proven and tested forward Tonny Odur to kill off the  game in the 4 minutes as Kitara will look to the sharpness of their vice skipper, Shadrack Kakooza for magic.

Kakooza is the club’s leading top scorer in Kitara Regional League with 8 goals in 9 games.

Goalie, Chris Kusima is beaming with confidence having kept a clean sheet against Express in all games played facing the Red Eagles.

Before the match, Kitara – Airtel F.C will have to pay a fine of Shs 300,000 for being on the wrong side of the law as regards provision of adequate security during the first leg.

The ultimate coveted prize for the winner of the Uganda Cup is representing the country at the CAF Confederation Cup.

Other prizes are glittering gold medals, a cash prize and a trophy.

Sports Club Villa is a the reigning champion.

David Isabirye is a senior staff writer for Kawowo Sports where he covers most of the major events.
