Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) president Jamal Malinzi’s aide Juma Matandika and Competitions Director Martin Chacha have been forced to resign.
The duo is suspected to be involved in match fixing scandals with four second division teams that are trying to gain promotion to the Top Tier League.
The four teams in question are Geita Gold, JKT Kanembwa, JKT Oljoro and Police Tabora whose results in the second division have yielded widespread criticism from the media and fans.
Gold thrashed JKT Kanembwa 8-0 on the same day that Polisi Tabora claimed 7-0 win over JKT Oljoro.
TTF’s disciplinary committee under its vice chairman Jerome Msemwa, have since relegated JKT Kanembwa to a regional level league (RCL) effective from next season.
Referee Saleh Mang’ola who officiated the match between JKT Kanembwa and Geita Gold together with the latter’s assistant coach Choke Abeid have been banned for life after it was believed he was involved in fixing the result.
Yusuf Kitumbo (chairman of Tabora Regional Football Association), the association’s secretary, Fateh Remtullah, JKT Oljoro chairman Amos Mwita and Tabora Polisi’s assistant coach, all suffered life bans, according to the committee’s statement.
Geita Gold and JKT Kanembwa goalkeepers Dennis Richard and Mohamed Mohamed were sentenced to a 10-year ban and fined with TSh10m for their part in the scandal.
The others with 10 year bans and TSh10m fines are Masoud Mkelemi who officiated the Polisi Tabora-JKT Oljoro match and the reserve referee, Fedian Machunde.
Different chairmen including Salum Kurunge (Geita Regional Football Association, Constantine Moladi (Geita Gold club) chairman, and Basil Matei (JKT Kanembwa’s secretary) were acquitted.
Others acquitted were Polisi Tabora secretary, Alex Kataya, JKT Oljoro secretary, Hussein Nalinja, Polisi Tabora’s store keeper Boniface Komba and the team’s manager Mrisho Selemani.
TFF is yet to come out with a statement on which teams will be promoted to the Top Tier League but will do so as soon as the ruling with the disciplinary committee is reached.
From different regions however, African Lyon and Ruvu Shooting have been promoted to premiership
