After the bowing out of the 2016 CAF Confederations Cup, Sports Club Villa captain, Jonathan Mugabi has called upon his charges to turn focus to the domestic competitions.

The lanky defender who played a solid defence in the return leg believes they have a chance to win the league and defend their Uganda Cup.

We played out hearts out. It was a great home performance. At least, we did not lose at home. We leave the championship honorably. Now, the attention comes back to the domestic league and the Uganda Cup.

SC Villa Jogoo defied the odds to defeat Morocco club, Faith Union Sports (FUS) Rabat 1-0 but got eliminated from the cup 7-1 on aggregate.

Striker, Umar Kasumba scored the Jogoos’ goal, a penalty in the 56th minute after Denis Kamanzi had been fouled in the area.

On a quick recount during the first leg away, Mugabi cites a number of factors how they lost by a big margin;

We had largely an inexperienced side. It was a windy intimidating atmosphere in Rabat but that is football after all.

The Jogoos’ 1-0 victory at Namboole was their fifth CAF Confederations Cup win this year.

After the back to back home and away victories against Sudanese Al Khartoum Al Watani and Zanzibar’s JKU, Villa lost the winning run away to FUS Rabat 7-0 with the goals coming from Mourad Batna, As Mandaw, Abdessalam Benjelloun, Mehdi Ei Bassel, Maroune Saadane, Youssef El Gnaoui and Mohamed Fouzair.

SC Villa indeed will return to domestic action as FUS Rabat qualifies to the next stage of the competition.
