2016 Masaza Cup:
- 7th May 2016
- Kabula Vs Buddu – Lyantonde
After a sold-out Nelson Mandela National stadium during the finals of the 2015 Masaza Football Cup between champions Singo and Buddu, questions were posed how a tournament of Masaza’s stature could sell out and fill Namboole to full capacity.
Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) the mother body of football in the country might have been impressed.
It is less surprising therefore to witness FUFA in full support of the tournament played by the 18 counties of Buganda.
On Wednesday, the tourney received an assortment of 100 balls (50 delivered). FUFA President, Moses Magogo handed the 50 balls to Buganda Sports, Youth and Recreation Minister Owek. Henry Sekabembe during the weekly press conference held on Wednesday at FUFA House Mengo, Kampala.
Magogo recounted the rich historical relation of football in Uganda with the Buganda Kingdom.
“Ugandan football has a long History with the Buganda Kingdom bearing in mind first FUFA President was Ssekabaka Daudi Chwa. Even before that, the missionaries were invited in Uganda by the Kabaka then in the year 1897 were the very people who introduced football” Magogo noted.
Magogo promised further support to Buganda sports in terms of educating the coaching and administrative staff.
Minister Sekabembe thanked FUFA for the contribution to the 2016 Masaza Cup and football in general.
The Masaza Cup officially kicks off on Saturday, 7th May 2016 when Kabula hosts last year’s losing finalists, Buddu in Lyantonde.
