Less than a day after reports of him passing trials, Ugandan international Farouk Miya has signed a three year deal at Belgium side Standard Liege.
This has been confirmed by the Belgian giants on their official website indicating the ex-Vipers attacking midfielder will be at the club till June 19.
“Standard de Liege has decided to use the buy option for the young Ugandan offensive midfielder….,” read part of the statement on the www.standard.be.
“He has signed a contract at our club for 3 seasons (till June 2019),” it continued.
It should be noted that in January, Vipers and Standard Liege reached an agreement for a six months loan deal for Miya with buy option in case he impresses something he has done.
Olivier Renard, one of the officials at the club is quoted in a statement on Miya signing.
Since Farouk MIYA arrived in Liège he showed some nice things on training and during the games he played. He started three times in play-off 2 and scored his first goal for the “Rouches” against Mouscron. This young player has convinced us of his qualities and his potential. The player himself was charmed by the project of our club and he believes Standard is the right step for him to make progress. He will help our club to reach his objectives and is looking forward to the beginning of the preparation for next season.
The club wished the Ugandan all the best after penning the new deal. “We would like to congratulate Farouk MIYA with this new contract and we wish him all the best playing for our club.”
