Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Denis Onyango on Monday night was voted as the best goalkeeper of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) at the 2016 Awards held at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park.

Onyango beat Moeneeb Josephs (Bidvest Wits) and Shu-aib Walters (MP Black Aces) to the award at his first nomination after spending close to a decade in South Africa.

Onyango was a key figure as Mamelodi Sundowns won their seventh title of the season with a record 71 points, keeping 14 clean sheets in a season he stood tall till the home run was complete.

Onyango had teammates, Thabo Nthethe and Khama Billiat win the Absa Premiership Defender and Midfielder of the Season Awards respectively.

It was Khama Billiat who stood tallest as he also scooped the Player’s Player of the season award and also the biggest award of the night,  The Footballer of the season Award.

I just want to thank God, I can’t believe it, I thank God for all the awards I have got tonight, my teammates, the coaches, and my president

Their coach, Pitso Mosimane also walked away with the Absa Premiership Coach of the Season

Onyango however missed out on the Telkom Knockout Player of the Tournament which was won by teammate Thabo Nthethe, who was a significant figure as Mamelodi Sundowns lifted the title last year.
