Uganda Cranes’ Henry Kalungi alongside Charlotte Independence colleagues lost 5-0 in extra time to the NASL Carolina RailHawks in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday.
Making ninety plus minutes, Kalungi and colleagues succumbed to an extra time walloping, swallowing as many as five after a goalless first and second half.
Independence were reduced to ten men when Jun Davidson for an accidental foot to the head on Nazmi Albadawi in the 29th minute, but held on till the extras.
The Railhawks scored three goals in nine minutes, Billy Schuler was able to thread the ball between Mizell’s hand and the right post just two minutes into the period.
Four minutes later Albadawi beat Mizell from the center of the box for a 2-0 advantage and soon it was three – nil after Shriver chipped in a deflected shot off Tiyi Shipalane.
Orlando netted the fourth for Railhawks in the 109th minute and Schuler’s in the 115th minute sealed the win at WakeMed Soccer Park.
Independence return home; at Ramblewood Stadium to play on Saturday, June 4, in the league against Toronto FC II.
