The men’s final of the DR Aporu Okol Memorial Volleyball Tournament didn’t send in Kumi as Sky complained about bad lighting in a game they were tied at 2-2 with Nemostars on June 12, at the Kumi District Boma Grounds.
The final that was rescheduled for June 18, 4pm at the MUBS Grounds in Nakawa still didn’t happen after the afternoon downpour made the tarmacked court unplayable.
The final has now been rescheduled for Sunday June 19, at the same MUBS venue in Nakawa, this time at 2pm with hope that the weather doesn’t interrupt the proceedings again.
Sky are playing in their first final of one of the best attended tournaments on the local volleyball calendar while Nemostars have been there a number of times, winning it in 2012 and 2014 and where runner-ups in 2013.
But today’s final is one where the two sides will have a score to settle. They have enjoyed a health rivalry since 2013 with Nemostars enjoying the lion’s share of success.
Playing against Sky has never been an easy game, they gave us a tough time in the aborted final but they again started playing mind games when we thought we had them where we wanted them to be. We will stick to same game plan we had in Kumi, polish the mistakes and see if we can lift our first title of the year.
Nemostars’ captain George Aporu told Kawowo sports ahead of the Saturday final before it was postponed to Sunday.
Nemostars are yet to win a title this year, while on the other hand Sky have the Nkumba Open title to show off, the KIU and Mbarara Open title have been won by Sport-S.
