Uganda Crested Cranes take on Kenya in a highly billed international build up on the artificial turf of Moi sports complex in Kisumu this Sunday.

The fixture comes an an opportune time when the two countries are eyeing the CECAFA championship in August 2016 (to be staged in Kampala) with Kenya testing a couple of new players on board on top of those who played in the AFCON qualifiers.

Team news:

Since the Uganda Crested Cranes team squad of 26 players was released last Tuesday by the head coach, Majidah Nantanda at FUFA House in Kampala, the team has had two complete training sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Friday, they embarked on a road trip to Kisumu by Friday morning and safely reached in the evening.

They trained at the match day venue on the eve of the game to feel the astro turf surface of the stadium as well as polish up the final touches.

Nantanda has already indicated they are on a team building process and never any sort of pressure.

We have not played as a team for a long time.

We are therefore assembling a new side.

Uganda is never any sort of pressure. Kenya is the team on pressure

Exciting Danish based winger Natasha Shirazi who features for Ballerupskovlude Foothold BSF is part of the Ugandan team.

Key Players: Christine Wanyana & Sandra Nabweteeme

Incidentally, Wanyana is the team captain (deputized by Stellah Nassuna Kaliba).

By far, she remains the most experienced member on the team.

Her composure on the ball, awesome leadership abilities will remain key for team Uganda at a time a largely inexperienced crop takes on the Kenyan side that has already qualified for the 2016 AFCON finals.

Nabweteeme is a two time FUFA Women elite league top scorer. She netted 17 goals in the 2015 season and 23 goals in the recently concluded season.

Kenya Harambee Starlets:

After knocking out Algeria in the qualifiers to make the AWCON finals for the first time ever, Kenya Harambee Starlets have been focused for the finals due in late November to December 2016.

David Ouma’s coached side envisages this build up as one of the early preparatory plans for the finals as well as the CECAFA Women championship coming up in August 2016.

Ouma will use the build up plat form to test the eight newly summoned players who were poached from the national league. Ouma told Goal.com that he indeed intends to try out the new players on board

We have women premier league that has given me an opportunity to scout new players.

We have 8 new players in national team adding to the 22 that featured against Algeria.

My intention ahead of the International friendly against Uganda on Sunday is try out new players in their respective positions so that we can have rich  depth in the squad during the AWCON

Key Player: Tabaka Chacha

She has the ability to dribble, pass and shoot from all distances. Tabaka is a real threat with some great experience and she is expected to give the Ugandan backline a torrid time.
