Ugandan Swimmer Jamila Lunkuse will dive into Rio’s blue waters on Sunday in heat 2 of the Women’s 100m breaststroke race as she targets progression to the next stage.
The household name will be in lane 2 alongside seven other female swimmers in a bid to make the time worth the semi finals at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium in the Barra Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro.
Izzy Shne Joachim from St Vincent & the Grenadines, Dariia Talanova of Kyrgyzstan, Estonian Maria Romanjuk , Moldova’s Tatiana Chișca, Evita Leter from Suriname, Pilar Shimizu of Guam and Georgia’s Teona Bostashvili will be her opponents.
Jamila will have to watch out for inspired FGCU swimmer Evita Leter who overcame diabetes to reach the Olympics. She was diagnosed with Type I, or juvenile, diabetes as freshman.
Another, Romanjuk Maria will be a force to reckon with after belonging to the 2009 Estonian squad. She has mastered the art of breast stroke over the years.
