On the kind of goal scored, he is quick to note that such worked out movements are trained and at most times perfected with continued practice.

During play, you look at the movements of your teammates and the defenders. When I spotted Tabu with the ball, I knew exactly where he was to play the ball.

I dummied then I went higher for the ball and directly it to the far post where the cross was coming from to give the goalkeeper no chance. I felt so happy and I was mobbed by the teammates in celebration.

Esenu’s first game for the Uganda Cranes was during the charity game played at St. Lawrence Primary School playground in Migyeera that the national team won 3-1 over Nakasongola Select.

He has now set his eyes to further call ups to the national team and making a breakthrough to the treasured senior team in the years to come.

“I will definitely continue to work hard and welcome call ups with open hands so that I am not a one off player. I thank the technical team at the Uganda Cranes and all my coaches who have handled me in my football journey especially coach Ayiekho (Charles Ayiekho Lukula, coach at MUBS and Soana),” the soft spoken forward added.

Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic hailed the striker after the game.

“When I first saw him, I confirmed he has the positional awareness of a center forward. He is still learning a lot of things but too promising,” Micho said of Esenu.

Esenu is nominated among the Best Up-coming Players of the season in the 2016 Uganda Premier League awards.
