With 10 gold medals won on Day 1, action on Day 2 saw two Ugandans in action and both miserably out.

Kennedy Katende who came up against Ghanaian born Joshua Buatsi representing Great Britain was no match. Buatsi who is younger turned out to be faster and quick on his feet and floored the Ugandan twice before going on to claim a Technical Knockout (TKO) after Katende couldn’t continue.

Our next door neighbor Kenya fared slightly better in the ring with Rayton Nduku Okwiri advancing to the next round after an unanimous decision against Russian Zamkovoi Andrei in the welterweight category.

It was no different for Uganda at the Olympic Aquatic Stadium where Jamila Lunkuse came 8th or last (if you like) in her race in a time of 1:19.64. The Swimmer could not even match her qualifying time of 1:17.23.

Day 2 also saw some huge upsets with Novak Djokovic getting knocked out and the William sisters also losing in the doubles. Venus has not been well, perhaps under the weather and many thought she wouldn’t even turn up for the match.

I was also lucky to watch Michael Phelps win his 19th Olympic gold medal.

The most frustrating thing so far is all the Portuguese being spoken. Trying to get from point A to B without any English directions is very hard.
