They may have gone a step backwards after finishing fourth at the 20th edition of the KAVC International tournament but Vision Volleyball Camp are more than happy with their performance at the event.
The Namboole outfit fell to eventual winners Aspire Volleyball Club in the semifinal before losing to Ndejje Elites with a similar score in the third place playoff.
“We are happy with what we did because everyone tried to do their best,” team captain Joan Nabbuto told Kawowo Sports at the team’s training base in Namboole on Tuesday evening. “Our performance was impressive and we left with our heads high,” she added.
Despite the side losing 3-0 to the Kenyan giants, Nabbuto heaps praise on her teammates for the good fight they put up against a team of Aspire’s type.
“The result is deceptive because we really put up a good fight. They are a good team and they probably expected to run over us,” the center player reasoned.
VVC have endured a tough start to the year with some players still unavailable for selection due to work commitments.
Main setter and national team captain Milly Laker has been out of the team because of work and the same applies to Vivian Adeke who has not played all year.
The team will however receive a boost from the return of two senior players who were pivotal for the team in their maiden season.
Josephine Nammanda seems to be getting back to her best after taking a sabbatical while Irene Adeke is also back in action.
“There is improvement and we should be back to our best very soon,” Nabbuto promised.
Hannington Nsubuga’s troops started the season with a 3-1 loss to defending champions Ndejje Elites.
