2016 FUFA Super Cup: KCCA 1-0 Vipers

The reigning Uganda Premier League champions, KCCA FC have clinched the 2016 FUFA Super Cup.

KCCA beat Vipers 1-0 in the traditional Uganda football season curtain raiser, the FUFA Super Cup at the Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku on Sunday evening.

After a barren opening half, the game was lit up by Geoffrey Sserunkuma’s goal three minutes past the hour mark.

The veteran center forward, a recruit from Lweza nodded home a telling cross from Bidvest Wits bound player, Joseph Ochaya.

Earlier in the opening half, the game had no clear cut scoring opportunities.

Three minutes into the game, KCCA’s Brian Majwega had the first attempt on goal, controlling well a Vincent Kayizzi cross but fired wide.

Joseph Ssemujju’s free kick was well tamed by KCCA’s goalie Benjamin Ochan in the 24th minute and later, Vipers new signing, Musa Esenu had a half chance tamed by the solid KCCA defence line.

In the second stanza, both sides called for a series of changes. Muzamir Mutyaba limped off for Sulaimon Akinyemi in the 56th minute for KCCA’s first change.

Vipers’ new signing Ibrahim Kayiwa came on for William Wadri moments after KCCA’s goal. His impact was felt immediately when he beat Benjamin Ochan but looked on in shock as he loop kissed the goal cross bar.

Tom Matisko replaced a largely effective Paul Mucureezi with 20 minutes left on the clock.

With six minutes to the game collapse, midfielder Brian Nkuubi came on for Kezironi Kizito as Abudallah Mubiru sought for alternatives to atleast level the score.

Meanwhile, KCCA introduced Derrick Nsibambi for left winger Brian Majwega before a technical beef up was called as Man of the Match Ivan Ntege paved way for Hakim Ssenkumba with a minute to the full time.

The victory gives KCCA another trophy in the cabinet and the full bragging rights as the league season gets underway on the 19th August 2016.
