Expectations are definitely high ahead of the Uganda Golf Open professional event tee off on the 31st August 2016 at the Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.
For the obvious reason, there is a building euphoria accruing from the boost of the total kitty, an instant increment from last year’s Shs100M to Shs110M courtesy of the sponsors.
Among the big names expected to vie for the big prize money is South African born professional James Bongani Kamte.
Kamte is among the few blessed African golfers to have played at the prestigious US Open in the 2009 after his successful sectional qualification in Columbus, Ohio.
The former footballer is also a four time Sunshine Tour winner and Asian Tour victor, nicknamed ‘Cobra’ for his ruthless attack on the greens, Kamte comes forth with a rich vein of expectations and ambitions.
“I am targeting the most coveted prize at the Uganda” Kamte, also a former tour member at the PGA European Tour says.
This very year alone, Kamte is still basking in the glory of hitting a 66 gross mark at the St Francis Links course. Coached by Gavin Levenson, the graduate of Woodridge College is still fresh from the Zimbabwe and Zambia Opens where he posted amazing scores.
With five professional wins to his name since 2003 when he turned pro, Kamte is always yearning for more.
“I expect good players in Kampala which will make the competition even tenser. Nonetheless, I have prepared well and ready for challenges” the graduate of Woodridge College in South Africa adds.
2015 winner, Madalitso Muthiya will be joined by a host of local professionals and those coming from Kenya, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
