New Kirinya-Jinja SSS boss Alex Isabirye, formerly at URA was pleased with his side’s display in their maiden Uganda Premier League game.

The league debutants played to goalless draw with four time league winners, URA at Bugembe Stadium on Friday and were the better side for much of the game.

Despite being their first game in top flight football, the School owned team showed why they came top in the Big league- the country’s second tier league- last season with a remarkable performance against a former league champion and the tactician couldn’t shy away from his delight.

“It was a good start for us,” Isabirye who joined the club after a bitter ending at his former side Bul, side after the game.

“We could have won the game but we were playing against an experienced URA side that was not willing to lose the first game so a point is good enough for us. But the boys played well and I was happy with everyone. It gave me an impression that the few weeks I have spent here yielded something.”

Isabirye gave his new signing David Kiiza a starting berth and the coach says “he didn’t disappoint.”

They however, missed the services of another new signing Ceaser Sapewo who lost his brother and had traveled to Lira for a burial. Prior to the game, Sapewo was in line for a start.

Returnee John Wakalaita could only feel the pitch for a few seconds as he saw his ‘second coming’ arrive in 90th minute.

Up next for Kirinya is a Jinja derby against JMC on Tuesday, August 23.
