Azam football club won the traditional curtain raiser in Tanzanian football ‘Community Shield Cup’  for the first time in history after overcoming arch-rivals Young Africans 4-1 via penalties in Dar es Salaam.

Normal time of the well attended fixture had ended 2 all.

Ngoma shot Yanga ahead 20 minutes into the game with a well converted penalty. Burundian import Amissi Tambwe doubled the advantage four minutes later.

Azam then staged a late fight scoring two goals in the final quarter of the game through Shomary Kapombe and John Bocco.

During penalties, Azam shit stopper, Aishi Manula emerged hero after denying Hassan Kessy whilst Haruna Niyonzima shot at the crossbar.

On the otherhand, John Bocco, Himid Mao, Bruce Kangwa and Kipre Bolou converted for the Ice Cream makers with goalkeeper Deogracias Munishi the lone scorer for Yanga.

The Tanzanian premier league commences this weekend.

Azam opened their league season with a 1-1 home draw against Africa Lyon at the Azam Sports Complex.
