Only hours separate the Uganda Cranes from making history when they take on Comoros in a 2017 AFCON qualifier at Nelson Mandela National Stadium on Sunday.

When the Cranes took to the field during the Friday evening training, one positive aspect could be noticed from every member on the squad bound to make history – aggressiveness.

Right from the four goalkeepers in camp, defenders, midfielders to the center forwards, they all inhaled something in common – eagerness to impress and registered the vital result against Comoros on Sunday.

As the defenders denied the strikers opportunities and time to orchestrate, midfielders desired to penetrate given the minimal space at their disposal.

Such was the training session that started at 5:36 p.m with a prayer session, limbering drill, stretching through to the set piece practice conducted under flood lights till 7:30 p.m.

Emphasis was how to penetrate the defence, alerting defenders there is much to do with clearing the ball out of danger as the forwards searched for the goals.

A large portion of the training regime was dedicated to set pieces from all distances – corners, free-kicks and finally penalty kicks.

We are now polishing man management, tactical management and department management. Players are now refreshed.

We need to be extremely effective in front of goal because they are the goals that count anywhere. It will not be style or fashion but attaining the most desirable home result – victory.

One last session remains for the Uganda Cranes on Saturday evening and this will be so crucial for the final judgement on the availability of first choice goalkeeper Dennis Onyango.

The Cranes shall train at the IUIU campus found at Kabojja on Saturday evening.
