Kenya’s women national football team the Harambee Starlets will be the sole representatives from CECAFA at the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon later this year.
That makes the side the outright favorites ahead of the 2016 CECAFA Women Championship that kickoffs on September 11 and run through to September 20 at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru in Jinja.
Kenya who are placed in Group A alongside Burundi and Zanzibar will open up their account against hosts Uganda on the opening day of the championship.
Head coach David Ouma has added four new faces to the squad which jets out to Uganda Friday according to Kenyan Newspaper Daily Nation.
Custodian Lilian Awuor (Nyakach Girls), Lilian Adera (Vihiga Queens) and Jackline Akoth (Makolanders) join Judith Musimbi as the new faces in the team.
She (Lilian Awuor) is a good goalkeeper who brings something new into the team
Ouma told the newspaper before giving a hint on how he plans to experiment with Lilian Adera at the deep-lying midfield role.
She is a utility player and can operate at the centre as a defensive midfielder and also play in the advanced offensive role and I think her command is good. But every player has an equal chance and it’s upon them to work hard and prove themselves.
Ouma who also doubles as the head coach at Kenya Premier League side Sofapaka has set a semifinal finish as his ultimate target.
Group B has Ethiopia, Rwanda and Tanzania. The championship will run from September 11-20 and last held in 1986.
