CECAFA Women Championship 2016:

FT: Zanzibar 1-10 Burundi

Burundi has had a strong start at the 2016 CECAFA Women Championship with a complete 10-1 humiliation of Zanzibar at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.

By the half way mark, Burundi was ahead 6-1 with goals coming from Djazilla Uwimeza (brace), Aziza Misigiyimana, Bukuru Joe’lle, Neilla Uwimana and Maggy Mumezero.

Zanzibar had been reduced to ten men as goalkeeper Amina Mohamed Kitambi held the ball out of the goal area.

The islanders pulled a goal back through team captain Abdallah Abdullahi Mwajuma’s penalty.

In the second half, Uwimeza completed her hat-trick with another headed effort in the 59th minute.

Second half substitute Sakina Saidi had a brace with Mumezero the other player with a set of brace. 

The tournament is being played for the first time since 1986 when Zanzibar hosted and won the championship.
