Paidha 2-2 Maroons
Maroons’ quest for an instant return to the Uganda premier league started with a 2-2 draw against Paidha Black Angels in the FUFA Big League- Elgon Group on Thursday at Bar Okoro, Zombo.
Right back Eddy Kapampa who was scoring his first goal for the club put the visitors ahead through his spectacular 20 yard direct free kick in the 14th minute, before turning provider for Patrick Kaddu’s header in the 34th minute.
But a lifeline from Fred Amako just before the break started the hosts’ comeback. The hosts got a controversial penalty with five minutes to recess, and it was Amako who stepped up to draw his side back to the game.
Six minutes after the break, Paidha leveled matters through Francis after Maroons’ players failed to deal with the corner and a rather physical game ended in a stalemate.
Both teams could easily have gone on to claim a win, but the sides had to settle for a point in a pulsating opening game as none was willing to start on a losing end.
Maroons were left to rue the referee’s decision to award a penalty.
