2016 AS Kigali pre-season tourney:
- Final: APR 1-0 AS Vita Club
- Third place: Rayon Sports 3-0 SC Kiyovu
Reigning Rwanda league champions APR beat Congolese club AS Vita 1-0 to win the inaugural AS Kigali Pre-season tournament at Amahoro National Stadium in Kigali.
Onesme Twizerimana , a new recruit scored the precious goal of the well-attended final inside the very last minutes of extra time.
AS Vita, coached by DR Congo national team coach Florent Ibenge dominated the early stages of the game that saw new signing Ernest Sugira denied by goalkeeper Emery Nvuyekure.
The third place play off slot was taken by Rayon Sports who humiliated SC Kiyovu 3-0.
Mali import Moussa Camara netted brace coming in the 33rd and 40th minutes.
Shassir Nahimana from Burundi sealed the final nail with the third goal coming in the 63rd minute.
Prizes:
The tournament champions were rewarded with gold medals, a glittering trophy, cash prize of Rwf5 million.
The runners up (AS Vita Club) took home silver medals, Rwf3 million with the third best club (Rayon Sports) pocketing Rwf2 million.
Tournament organizers AS Kigali were joined by five other Rwandese clubs in SC Kiyovu, Rayon Sports, APR, Sunrise FC and Police FC.
There were two guest clubs from the Democratic Republic of Congo – AS Vita Club and Dauphins Noir.
The tournament which lasted for ten days will be played on an annual basis.
