Michael Basangwa won the first edition of the Chess Life Academy Juniors Chess tournament- the Glamour Series- on Saturday after outwitting all his opponents on a two-day event held at Jevine hotel, Rubuga.
Basangwa’ s opponents were no match for the 17 year old who went unbeaten in the U20 category.
The 2014 U15 National Junior Champion beat Doreen Mirembe and John Bosco Lokure in the first and second round respectively before seeing out John Sserwaniko and Emmanuel Musaasizi in the subsequent two rounds.
The rated 2000 wrapped up his perfect tournament with victories over Victor Kanyike and Andrew Musoke in the fifth and sixth round to emerge U20 champion.
The trio of Marvin Bagonza, Vincent Buwule and Tendo Terry also won their respective categories, U16, U13 and U7 with perfect scores to become champions while Tonny Owembabazi the U10 winner with 7/8 lost his perfect touch with defeat to Anthony Habimana in the final round.
