UCU Lady Canons’ hopes of lifting the Zone V Clubs’ championship title received a boost after defeating Kenyan giants KPA 64-60.

The Ugandan outfit started strong and had a 9-point advantage at the end of the first quarter before KPA stepped up in the second to keep UCU within touching range.

The Kenyan side, highly regarded among the favourites, ensured they reduced UCU’s lead before halftime and their efforts saw the lead reduced to just 2 points (32-30) going into the final 2 quarters.

KPA manned the third quarter, scoring 20 points against UCU’s 15 to go into the last stanza with a 50-47 lead.

The Lady Canons then limited the Kenyan representatives to just 10 points in the final quarter and scored 17 themselves to win the their third game at the tournament.

“We have a better chance now than we did before the game,” Lady Canons head coach Nick Natuhereza said after the game. “We now focus on the next game, take one game at a time and see how far we can go,” he added.

UCU will now need to win against home side JKT Stars in their fourth game to make the finals.

KCCA Leopards, the other Ugandan side at the championship, finally won a game after defeating JKT 77-58 in their third game of the tournament.
