DR Congo 0-1 Kenya

Kenya Harambee Stars shocked Democratic Republic of Congo with a 1-0 result at the Martyrs’ stadium in Kinshasa on Tuesday evening.

On colour forward Michael ‘The Engineer’ Olunga grabbed the winner deep in the second half.

The DjurgÃ¥rdens IF lanky center forward who features in the Swedish top flight league pounced home the rebound following Paul Were’s effort that had kissed the cross bar.

Kenya missed the services of their skipper, Victor Wanyama who plies his professional trade with Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League.

Towering defender David Owino took over the team captaincy role as he paired with Brian Mandela in central defence.

Aboud Omar and Jockins Atudo played the respective left and right back roles.

The home team had a slight edge in the opening half but the threat from Firmin Mubele and Jonathan Bolingi was put well under check.

Everton’s Yannick Bolassie was introduced for injured Bolingi minutes to the break.

The real gist of the game arrived after 68 minutes. Were eluded from his marker on the left, unleashed a fierce shot that beat Joel Kiassumba in goal only to settle on the cross bar.

Olunga, a typical poacher was in the right position at the right timing to bury home the rebound to silence the partisan home crowd.

Harambee shot stopper Boniface Oluoch was called on several occasions to thwart the Congolese threat as they sought for atleast a point from the game.

Stanley Okumbi registered his first away win at the helm of Harambee Stars.
