Semifinal Fixture
City Oilers vs. USIU
Ugandan champions City Oilers remained unbeaten at the ongoing FIBA Zone V Club championship after a comprehensive 78-54 win over Rwandan side Espoir.
Mandy Juruni’s charges started ruthlessly and scored 31 points against Espoir’s 11 in the first quarter.
The second quarter was no different as the Ugandans maintained the lead and stretched it to 21 at the end of the first half.
Last year’s losing finalists ran riot in the third quarter as they scored 28 points and limited their opponents to just 9, opening up a 40-point difference going into the final 10 minutes.
Juruni’s starting 5 had done enough and he rested them throughout the fourth quarter.
New addition Stanley Ocitti continued to lead Oilers offense scoring a game high 18 points while Ben Komakech contributed 17. Landry Ndikumana and Jimmy Enabu scored 15 and 12 respectively while Kami Kabange only had 2 points in 17 minutes.
Oilers will go into the knockout stage as top seeds and face Kenyan side USIU in the semifinals.
City Oilers finished second in Kigali, Rwanda last year and set a target of winning the title this year to qualify for the continental championship that will be held in Cairo, Egypt.
