Zone V Championship:

W: KCCA 27-72 KPA

W: UCU 53-57 USIU

The two Ugandan representatives (Ladies) at the Zone V Club championship in Dar es Salaam failed to show up on the final day of the tournament and missed out on earning tickets to the Africa Club Championship.

KCCA Leopards were the first to take to the court and couldn’t deal with the charged KPA and succumbed to a humiliating 72-27 loss.

The game was fairly balanced at the start with the Kenyan side taking the first quarter 17-11 before stretching the lead to 36-17 in the second period.

Timothy Odeke’s side seemingly gave up from then. KPA stretched the lead and created a 31-point difference at the end of the third quarter.

The last 10 minutes still belonged to KPA as they limited KCCA to just 3 points, scoring 17 themselves to win the game 72-27.

Flavia Okecho and Maureen Amoding scored 8 and 7 points respectively while KPA’s Yvonne Akinyi and captain Natarie Akinyi scored 17 and 16 respectively.

The other Ugandan side, UCU Lady Canons lost their second game in a row having started the tournament with a 4-0 record.

Nick Natuhereza’s charges fell to Kenyan side USIU in the final game of the ladies’ competition. UCU had overcome their lethargic start to the game as they scored 17 points in the second quarter to cut USIU’s lead to just 2 points.

The tightly contested second half saw the Kenyans get the better of the Ugandans with center Vilma Achieg getting into foul trouble early in the third quarter.

Judith Nansobya scored 16 points for UCU while Zaina Lokwameri added 12 in the team’s losing effort. USIU’s Sarah Ramadhan scored a game high 24 points while Georgia Adhiambo added 12.

UCU finished the tournament in third place while KCCA’s loss to KPA saw them fall to fifth place.
